ICN NSW helps with regional economic stimulus

Regional NSW has benefitted significantly from the Building the Education Revolution (BER) stimulus activities with help from ICNNSW regional consultants.

In contracts managed by Laing O’Rourke, regional builders introduced by ICNNSW regional Managers Mr Klaus Baumgartel and Mr Jeremy Cubitt won a combined total of construction contracts exceeding $65 million as at the end of June 2010. More regional contracts are expected as the BER progresses.

A total of nine Albury/Riverina region companies won contracts to a combined value exceeding $45 million, while four Central West construction companies secured contracts valued at nearly $20m.

No precise number of jobs involved is available, however $65 million in construction contracts no doubt retained substantial employment in regional NSW, at a time when the economy was in danger of slipping into deep recession alongside most of the developed world, due to the global economic crisis.

The contracts will also have supported the continued employment of trades apprentices and trainees allowing them to continue their professional development uninterrupted.

ICNNSW regional offices work with project developers and managers in their respective regions to ensure that local companies, (and their workforces), receive fair opportunities to compete for project work. Companies that win work through ICNNSW introductions often go on to develop their business relationships with major construction and engineering companies further, providing ongoing employment and training opportunities for regional NSW residents.

In all instances, regional companies win contracts because they offer best value for money, not through any favoritism

ICNNSW is principally funded by Industry and Investment NSW.
