AEC REPORT

An AEC Group report released in August 2004 by ICN has found that for every additional $1.0 million of successful new or retained manufacturing business, the following effects flow through the economy:

  • 17 full-time jobs are created.
  • $317,900 worth of tax revenue is generated;
  • $1,262,000 worth of value-added is generated; and
  • $136,400 worth of welfare benefits is saved;

The report sector found that 42% of new jobs were created in manufacturing itself and the rest in other industries as a flow-on effect.

ICN (NSW) AWARDED A GRANT UNDER THE REGIONAL PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM TO BUILD AND GROW REGIONAL BUSINESS THROUGH DEFENCE PROJECTS

In January 2005 the Commonwealth Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTARS) awarded a grant to ICN (NSW) to assist in developing a supply chain for the $400 million Headquarters Joint Operation Command (HQJOC) project in Bungendore NSW.

ICN (NSW) will match the Commonwealth funding in supporting this project, which will provide substantial opportunities for businesses in the South Eastern Region of NSW.

ICN’s main role will be to establish a network of SMEs and incorporate their details on a database, to support delivery of the HQJOC project and to provide support to the facility throughout its service life.  This is expected to be for a minimum of 30 years.

The benefit of this service to the Prime Contractor will be to make them aware of competitive LOCAL companies and consortia that can supply the goods and services necessary for efficient delivery of the project.

The benefit of the service to LOCAL companies will be to assist them to prepare themselves for consideration by the Prime Contractor, which may include participating in consortia and joint ventures to achieve the critical capability required of such a major project.

In order to receive ICN’s support in preparing to bid for work on this project please contact ICN (NSW’s) South Eastern NSW consultant Wally Hirsch.

ICN (NSW) SECURES COMMONWEALTH FUNDING TO SUPPORT TWO PROJECTS IN NSW

ICN (NSW) has applied for and has been granted Commonwealth funding to support secondment of ICN consultants to two major NSW projects.

The Commonwealth Government’s Supplier Access To Major Projects Program (SAMP), which is administered by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources (DITR), provides funding to identify capable and competitive Australian companies that can supply major project requirements for goods and services.  The program assists project developers to achieve savings through a broad competitive supply base, and assists Australian suppliers to gain opportunities to enter into supply markets both in Australia and overseas.

In mid 2005 ICN NSW applied for and was granted SAMP funding to second consultants to Project Waratah (Western Sydney steel coating line), and the Port Kemba No. 5 Blast Furnace Re-Line project.

The secondment of ICN consultants to these projects will provide a valuable resource to the procurement teams of both projects and ensure that the prime contractors are made aware of the capabilities of competitive local companies when developing their supply chains.  As a consequence, competitive local companies will be able to bid for work on the projects, on at least equal terms, with companies from outside the region.
